When it came to this shark, it was safe to go in the water, but it could have been risky for it to be on the market.
Crazy Foam, “the toy that cleans,” was a foaming soap that children could shape and play with while bathing. Accounts say this idea was inspired by an accident, when a chemist accidentally made a shaving cream so rubbery it bounced. The Aerosol Corporation of America put this can on the market when it was still “patent pending,” risking copycat products. Crazy Foam was a sensation, and remained in production for decades.
When the product was rebooted in the 2010s, the term “Crazy Foam” was trademarked.
This weekend, we’re exploring patent and trademark history online and on the floor at the National Trademark Exposition. Link in the bio (http://www.uspto.gov/TMExpo)
