From a bird’s eye view of the Amazon golden rivers cut sweeping curves across the emerald foliage. The anaconda is known in some parts of the Basin as Yacumama, or ‘water mother’. In other regions they are believed to have come from the night sky - slithered down from the Milky Way to etch the rivers across the land, creating the sacred waters that give life to all beings. To Western science they remain mysterious apex predators - regulators and guardians of a major life-giving system. In the twisted tributaries of the jungle, the lines between science and belief blur amidst the vines. One thing remains certain: this is a species that deserves our attention, our protection, and our wonder.

To follow my journey to photograph anacondas, the world’s largest species of snake, I’m @tbfrost
