Photo by @DavidDoubilet / Sunset casts a golden shadow across a group of black tip sharks patrolling the shallow corals of Fakarava's South Pass in French Polynesia. The South Pass, one of two openings into the lagoon, is a true boulevard of predators inhabited by hundreds of gray reef sharks in the depths and squadrons of black tip sharks that patrol the shallows. The sharks ride the changing tidal currents in the pass by day and at night disperse to aggressively compete and explore the coral reefs for a fish meal. This is one of the most exhilarating places to dive with predators on the planet, day or night in a garden of coral. It is a place to observe sharks and to be observed by them and to be cautious because you are in their world strictly on their terms.
