This morning, @アカデミー賞 announced some major changes to the 2020 Oscars. First, the new date: February 9, up two weeks from the previously announced February 23. This will undoubtedly affect other awards shows, film festivals and campaigns.
Second, the new category: "Outstanding achievement in popular film." Which movies will qualify? Does it cheapen the prestige of the award? Key details are yet to be announced.
Third, not every category will air live. In an attempt to get the telecast down to 3 hours, a select number of categories will be announced during commercial breaks.
