A car winds its way to the summit of The Quiraing, the northernmost summit of the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. This geological landslip is defined by cliffs, sweeping hillsides and pinnacles, which provide its strangely supernatural appearance so beloved by tourists and Hollywood (recent films set here have included The BJG, Stardust and Michael Fassbender’s, Macbeth). In a move designed to help protect the long-term development of the island, the Scottish Government is being lobbied to consider awarding Skye as a national park, a special status currently enjoyed by the Cairngorms and Loch Lomond. The name Quiraing comes from Old Norse 'Kví Rand', which means "Round Fold".
