100 years ago this month saw the beginning of the end of the First World War.
From 8 August to 11 November 1918 the war entered its final phase during which the Allies (US, British, French... forces) launched a series of offensives against the Germans on the Western Front. The offensive essentially pushed the Germans out of France, forcing them to retreat beyond the Hindenburg Line, and was followed by an armistice and the collapse of the German Empire. There were over 1.8 million casualties on both sides.

I've been working for a year now on a larger project about the aftermath of the War. Here at Newfoundland Park on the Somme, the preserved trenches and shell holes are softened, but still preserved.
