The word legend gets thrown around pretty easily these days. This man has been teaching us all for decades. A great actor who used his power for good at every turn. First, by making art that is always substantive - and always elevating our country’s dialogue. To name a few, “All the President’s Men,” “The Milagro Bean Field War,” “Ordinary People,” “The Candidate,” “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Way We Were,” “Quiz Show,” “The Electric Horseman,” and my personal favorite: “Jeremiah Johnson.” My mother always told me we should do the good we have the power to do. He certainly lives up to that creed. As a member of the film community he has given back ten fold the good fortune he was given as an activist and environmentalist. The longer I work and the more I live, the more I admire him and the more I realize how difficult it is to walk the road he has walked.
