LIFE legend Wilt Chamberlain was born 82 years ago today, August 21, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA. He is considered one of the greatest NBA players in history. Standing at 7 foot 1 inch, he had nicknames such as "Wilt the Stilt" and "Goliath." He died at the young age of 63 in 1999. This photo ran in the Nov. 30, 1959 sports story - "THE LEAP THAT NO ONE CAN STOP" with the following caption: "Leaping to shoot, Chamberlain tries to get his push shot over Bill Russell's ever-present hand.
