•Top, Mara Hoffman We chose Mara Hoffman as a brand because of its commitment to sustainability: she was awarded the 2017 Positive Impact Award for brand leadership in advancing sustainability. We love the fabric of the dress because it is made of 1) GOTS certified organic cotton and TencelTM, blended with linen and hemp. These 3 natural fibres have a far lower environmental impact: GOTS certified organic cotton is grown without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilisers or pesticides and is grown without genetically modified seeds. Organic cotton is mainly grown in rain fed systems (80%). Its cultivation in rotational agricultural systems instead of monocultures enhances the soil, resulting in increases organic matter, therefore rainwater is retained more efficiently. The hemp and linen blended in this fabric are mainly in rain-fed crops, grown on marginal lands without pesticides and fertilisers. 2) TencelTM is made from sustainable wood plantations that are certified. It is processed with eco-friendly closed loop production technology in a fully transparent supply chain and is fully biodegradable within weeks. 3) Refibra, is made from TencelTM fibers and recycled cotton scraps gathered from factory floors, following the principles of a circular economy. 4) Hemp is a hardy crop requiring no pesticides and no fertilizers to grow well in temperate climates and is replenishing the soil, an ideal crop for rotation or grown on marginal lands. •Earrings, Lillian Von Trapp We love Lillian’s eponymous brand largely because of her commitment to only using 100% certified recycled gold. All production takes place in Germany, Dietrich in Pforzheim, using only Gold bought from German company Bauer-Walser. Bauer-Walser is a gold refinery that specializes in recycling gold that has already been in circulation (such as gold components, jewellery or electronics). They are independently audited and certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). The audit certifies, that 100% of the gold that comes from the refinery Bauer-Walser has been recycled by them (as opposed to bought from mines and refined fresh). #arizonamusextheecoiste
