A higher altitude view of Icy Bay in Alaska️. Operation IceBridge, the largest airborne survey to map Earth’s polar ice, captures unprecedented three-dimensional views of Arctic and Antarctic ice sheets, ice shelves and sea ice. Many of the photographs from our lengthy missions feature the icy landscapes of Greenland and Antarctica, but the view during our shorter missions reveal some equally majestic landscapes, like this image of Icy Bay, in the Wrangell-Saint Elias Wilderness in Alaska. Just a century ago, this body of water was covered in ice. Data collected during Operation IceBridge will help scientists better understand processes that connect the polar regions with the global climate system.
