I was 19, 3 days away from my 20th birthday and entering my junior year of college at Bridgewater State. I was awoken by a college roommate coming home from an early morning class saying “a plane hit a building.” I was confused and honestly had no idea what was happening but proceeded to get dressed. I then headed out for my first class thinking it was just an accident. I vividly remember seeing a number of students frantically walking around but I don’t remember hearing any noises/or anyone talking, it was an absolutely beautiful day out, bright blue skies. Little did we know how dark it was a few hundred miles away and a second plane had just struck a building. I walked into my class and was informed to go home/no classes- I could tell you so many things I randomly remember about that day, I remember the songs that were even playing. Fast forward to today, as I drove into work this morning (1 hour ride) I did not hear one mention of 9/11 on the radio, not many people talking about it, have we forgotten?! I really hope not, hard to believe it was 17yrs ago but it’s so fresh in my mind. Thoughts and prayers to all those affected by this tragic event, from the victims, families and first responders.
