Hurricane Florence was pounding the #Carolinas with as much as 3 inches of rain an hour today as it trudged inland at a meager 3 miles an hour. As much 2 feet of rain had already fallen in some places, combining with a wind-driven storm surge to cause catastrophic flooding. In New Bern, North Carolina, emergency rescue teams were trying to reach hundreds of trapped residents. By 5 p.m., it was about 50 miles west-southwest of Wilmington, and the wind had dropped to 70 miles an hour. @victorblue took this photo of Lee Casteen, 39, left, and Try Hinton, 37, right, in Wilmington. Swipe left to see more: @howdyluke photographed a road sign on the ground in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; @victorblue photographed Nikki Leber with her son Jeremiah in Wilmington; @ericthayer photographed a flooded road in Wilmington; and @howdyluke photographed the result of high winds in Myrtle Beach. | On the other side of the world, Super Typhoon #Mangkhut slammed into the Philippines early Saturday local time.
