When a photographer becomes a sculptor; this is the case of Thierry Le Goues in this case from his book Soul, 1997
His photographs of black female nudes echo the streamlined, abstract human forms of sculptor Constantin Brancusi. Soul is about celebrating & exposing the beauty of Black women whom he felt at that time were underrepresented in the world of high fashion. Of the finished collection, he said: “Soul is an homage to my medium, which is the models who are my inspiration.” In greasepaint and posing against stark, vacant backgrounds to heighten the sculptural element of our human form... the resulting photographs  are sensual, stirring and beautiful works of art.
