Anna J. Cooper was an author, sociologist, activist, and one of the most distinguished African American scholars in U.S. history. She enrolled in Oberlin College and graduated in 1884 with a degree in Mathematics and received her master's degree in 1888. In 1924, she became the fourth black woman to earn a doctoral degree at University of Paris-Sorbonne. She published a collection of political essays about feminist ideas from black women in the 19th century called "A Voice From The South: By a Black Woman of the South." She is sometimes called "the mother of Black Feminism" and continues to inspire women to defy odds stacked against them. #inspirationwednesday
