#OnThisDay On September 25, 1957, @burtglinnphoto documented a landmark moment in America’s civil rights movement, when the so-called Little Rock Nine entered their newly-desegregated high school in Little Rock, Arkansas for the first time.

The nine African-American students had been due to start on the first day of classes at the high school on September 4, 1957, however, their entry was blocked after Arkansas governor Orval Faubus called in the state National Guard. Later in the month, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent in federal troops to escort the students into the school, and they began their first full day of classes on September 25.
