I am Ms. Bernal, a Special Education teacher. I am a second year teacher, but I’ve been working with the Special Needs community for about 10 years. Before transitioning into teaching, I worked as a Behavior Therapist and a Paraprofessional. I teach at a title 1 school, meaning that most of our kids live in poverty. Also, many of the kids at our school live in foster homes.
I teach 3rd graders in a self-contained setting for students with Autism. They face daily challenges due to their special needs. However, despite those challenges, they come to school with a smile on their face everyday. They are taught the core curriculum and it can be very challenging for them. I am always looking for ways to make learning more engaging and meaningful. Being a teacher is not easy. However, I take all experiences as an opportunity to grow and become a better teacher/person.
