Is Jill potty trained? ✅ YES

When Jill was a baby I read on The Squirrel Board (thesquirrelboard.com) about successes with potty training. I tried litter training, but I decided against that method all together when she kept chewing on the litter.

One day she hopped into this small garbage can and went to the bathroom. I thought, what a great idea!

I trained her just as I would a puppy: consistency, positive reinforcement, timing, repeat.

I fill the garbage can up more than halfway with folded (cloth) towels. That way she doesn’t sink to the bottom when she jumps in. Because that would be scary. I use a grocery store plastic bag and line that with paper towels. It’s the easiest cleanup!

For positive reinforcement, consistency, and timing she immediately gets 3 (small) sunflower seeds that I keep in a jar close by. I tell her, “good potty” and give her all the kisses.

She did catch on and got in the habit of pulling the jar off of the shelf to tell me when she needed treats. The jar is kept in a drawer now.
