225 years ago today, on 16 October 1793, Queen Marie Antoinette was executed by guillotine. She had been held in the Temple Tower for over a year. This miniature diamond ring, featuring her portrait, survived and was recovered by the queen’s daughter, Madame Royale (Marie Thérèse de France) upon her release from the tower.
