Today we introduce Heather Glazzard @heather_glazzard who is one of the artist on display selected by an internationally acclaimed jury ✨Here a sneak peek at Heather’s work - ‘Cara Looij’ from the series ‘Queer Letters’ ? ‘My parents are fairly liberal in a sense and accepting of my friends who are gay and/or trans etc. However, at the age of about 14 I said to my mum: ‘I don’t think it matters whether someone is a boy or a girl, I think I would love the person rather than the gender.’ My mum’s response was: ‘I think that if you choose to be gay, you’d be choosing a very difficult life for yourself.’ and we never spoke about it again. Remembering it vividly, it has stopped me from coming out to my parents. I think I only ever would if I was in a really serious relationship with a woman. If I could speak to younger self I’d tell her not to be afraid of being different, you’ll find that it’s the thing you’ll learn to love about yourself when you’re older. I’d also tell her to try to find other young people who are also in the same position. I wish I had the ball to go and make friends with other queer people, but I was too set on trying to hind that part of me. I tried to pretend that it wasn’t part of me and now I am finding it hard to reconnect with it.’ #CaraLooij
