Thank you @Instagram. ??? . About 8 months ago I shared about the autism journey with our son. Since then many of you reached out with similar stories, enforcing this sense of community and that we’re not alone in this. . Through that I made a special connection with two ‘Autism Dad’s’ (@mattdayphoto + @micahdahlberg ) who also happen to be photographers (and regularly shoot film). It was refreshing to see Instagram still be that medium for real connection beyond the algorithm and recycled images, It felt like 2013 all over again. . There has been such a motivating aspect to seeing them share images of their kids as well. As most of you know it’s hard enough to capture moments of your kids but add the extra element of the always moving, eye-contact dodging, non-direction taking bundles of energy to the mix. Yea, its been quite an exercise w/ my rangefinder skills. . I captured this image of my son last month and love how the beautiful accidents (or maybe they aren't truly accidents) are revealed on film. This was before my father's memorial service as Luke was looking out the window of my childhood home. There are levels here that I can feel and can't explain, but it's another why I won't stop shooting film and sharing personal moments. People like Micah and Matt continue to inspire and push me to keep at it. So those are my Friday morning thoughts over a cup of coffee and a shoutout to those other special needs parents using their cameras and social media to raise awareness and capture moments along the way.
