"I am a disappointed drudge sir. I care for no man on earth and no man on earth cares for me." - Sydney Carton "A Tale Of Two Cities" 10 years ago a group of people embarked on what would be a journey to remember. People would meet, become friends and those friends would become family. That journey was the Broadway production of A Tale Of Two Cities which opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre in 2008. And now, tonight, 10 years later we revisit this journey with the 10th Anniversary of A Tale Of Two Cities Concert @birdlandjazz in NYC. This Dickens story has always held special meaning for me. Although the marketing for the Broadway show was about "Joining The Revolution" I've always held that Tale is one of the greatest love stories ever written. A Tale of tragedy, mistaken identity, redemption...but most of all love. It's the story of a man who sacrifices his life for another so that the woman he loves can live her life with the man she loves. It is the ultimate gesture, the quintessential story of unrequited love. The quote at the top of the page is directly from the Dickens novel. They are Cartons words about himself spoken to Charles Darnay and give us insight in to the mind of this somewhat tortured soul. They clearly set the foundation for the change Carton finds though this story. The unconditional platonic love of others that breaks his defensive facade and leaves us with a man, raw, caring and filled with integrity. People CAN change. There is hope and there is light and there is redemption. We might just have to give them the first spark as a reminder that the possibility has always been there inside of them. The story is heartbreaking, inspirational and journeys such as this push me to live my life as best as I can. To try and help others do the same and somehow, even if in the smallest way possible, make a positive impact on the world in which we live. image Your Destiny Is Waiting...make it worth something. .. #change #broadway #hope #redemption #music #charlesdickens
