The first time I went to Rome years ago, I didn’t have a good experience. Too many people everywhere, too much noise, too much everything (and also maybe I was not in the best company ahah!).
.
But now each time I go back I love it more. This time we even braved the masses and went to visit the Colosseum and got to understand a little part of the crazy history of men and to understand that the “society of spectacle” has existed forever and has always been pretty cruel and often absurd.
.
I don’t know where I am going with this, ahah - except that I am, as probably many of you, appalled by what’s going on in our society of spectacle where politics and reality TV have mingled and where, as Guy Debord said “all that was once directly lived has become mere representation”.
