On Oct. 30, when President Trump visits #Pittsburgh, where 11 people were killed in a synagogue shooting on Saturday that authorities said was a hate crime, he will face the tough task of balancing the traditional presidential duty to comfort and unite the country with his instinct to rip into his political foes and the press. The White House struggled to strike that balance on Monday: Sarah Sanders, the White House Press Secretary, opened her briefing with a tearful statement about the shooting but ended it with a diatribe against what the White House views as unfair coverage by the press. On Twitter, Trump blamed the media for “division and hatred” in the U.S. and called the press “the true Enemy of the People.” In this photograph on Oct. 29, police tape seals the perimeter of the Tree of Life synagogue in the city's Squirrel Hill neighborhood. The suspect, identified as Robert Bowers, has been charged with 29 criminal counts, including 11 counts of obstruction of religious beliefs resulting in death. Those who were slain ranged in age from 54 to 97, and included a married couple and a pair of brothers. Photograph by @bsmialowski@AFP通信/@gettyimages
