“This photograph was taken in a housing estate in Moss Side, just south of inner city Manchester, England. I had been commissioned to document the challenges that British inner cities and industry were facing under the neglectful years of Margaret Thatcher’s tenure as prime minister. The girl in the photograph crosses in front of a store where stones have been thrown at the window .
