Without context, this quote may sound stupid. Dirceu’s quote has been present in my life since I was a kid. He was referring to his teammates when he played in a Mexican Soccer team, but I’ve always applied it on an Existential level, the way that people behave with people. Obviously, at first, I applied it in my own life. One gives Love and they send back Watermelons. Not Animals, they are pure, just like children, but unfortunately, children become persons. Do you know that the word person comes from the word persona and it actually means mask? Kids Love with all their Hearts but they are betrayed by everyone along the way, until they become a persona, someone with a mask. Animals get betrayed almost as much as kids, but contrary to kids, they don’t absorb the mind. In Zen, there are 3 things to understand: Mind, with a capital M. No Mind, which is the Secret of Secrets, and mind, with a lower case m, which is that annoying thing that keeps you awake at night, that annoying thing that makes you talk to yourself all the time. When you transcend that mind (Lower case), then, you realize Enlightenment. It is very easy actually, it’s just a millimetric misunderstanding, very easy to correct. It’s just a realization and voila, Magic. Have you seen the statue of Buddha laying down sideways? Nobody knows what it exactly means, so I’ll tell you now: He is jokingly laying down, in apparent disbelief, waiting for you to stop bullshitting yourself and realize Enlightenment.
