A slice of history... #GuyFawkes night or “Bonfire Night” is when Brits gather under firework lit skies to watch dummies burn on bonfires! ? Why?! ??‍♂️ It’s actually the anniversary of an attempt to blow up the #HousesOfParliament - known as the Gunpowder Plot. The dummies - or Guy - refer to Guy Fawkes who was part of the plot. Back in 1605 the plan was to blow up King James I and his government! England was Protestant. The plotters were Catholic. 36 barrels of explosive gunpowder were hidden in the cellars of parliament, but the king’s supporters got hold of a letter warning a friend to stay away from the Houses of Parliament on the 5th November. The plotters were tumbled and subsequently executed.
