Photo by @simoncroberts | The Dongdaemun Design Park (DDP) in Seoul, South Korea, was created by the late Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid. This neo-futuristic cultural complex was commissioned to replace the Dongdaemun Stadium, built during Japanese rule in the 1920s, and was created in Hadid’s signature curvaceous forms. Dongdaemun is a busy and historic neighbourhood in central Seoul’s Jongno-gu district, which is known for its 24-hour shopping. The DPP complex includes a much-needed green oasis within the densely built South Korean capital. During the site’s excavation, major archaeological remains from the Joseon dynasty were uncovered, including original sections of the Seoul City Wall, which have been incorporated into the park.
