The Secret of Matsumoto Castle’s Beauty

Matsumoto Castle is loved by locals and called “Crow Castle” due to its black exterior.

To preserve the castle’s beauty, the black lacquer is repainted every year in autumn, from the main keep and moon-viewing pavilion to the Taiko Gate.

Thanks to the hard work of many of Matsumoto’s citizens, Matsumoto Castle continues to be a beautiful symbol of the city.
