What I love about this lift. My coach Zygmunt Smalcerz was not able to be there, I had two coaches that had never coached me before in the back and I am insanely grateful for them. A week prior or so I had just hit over the American Record in training and was hoping to do it there but being the first person to compete back then we had to be smart for team points. I WAS PISSED. I had worked so hard and opened significantly less than what I wanted. I took that on the stage with me because I thought I was right and I would prove them wrong. I missed both my middle snatch and clean and jerk. If I was confident that I should have been able to these lifts why didn’t I? I let my frustrations of everyday life to take over my biggest moment on stage to that day. (P.S. I love that @texasbarbellclub thinks the same way as I’m walking off the stage.) . Here’s the thing with weightlifting, everyday you show up work your ass off for minimal gains it seems like. It is a a constant roller coaster ride and the road is never always forward. We change, we learn, we adapt and it’s messy. The biggest thing to realize when you are on this journey is that it is always you and your relationship to yourself, your sport and your coaches. It’s not always going to be a walk in the park but nothing ever really worth doing is. I used this moment at Worlds in 2014 as a lesson that I can only control what happens in my mind. I cannot control anything outside my being, I can only control my reaction to the situation put in front of me. . . . . #wwc2014 #tbt #teamusa #weightlifting #mindovermatter #motivation #adapt #learn #grow
