Natasha Richardson & I recreated David Hockney’s Portrait of the Artist (Pool with Two Figures) in 2005 at Le Nid Du Duc, in the hills outside of St. Tropez. He painted this and several more at the hideaway, which originally belonged to Natasha’s dad, Tony Richardson, who would host summer-long salons with games and drama that drew a wonderfully eclectic crowd. Natasha carried on the tradition and I’m pretty sure most who stayed wound up with a similar photographic recreation. Those were magical times I think about a lot.
