I read this in a book the night before trying the Changing Corners pitch for the first time. -

‘Set your ambitions, even if you are uncertain about what they should be. The better ambitions have to do with the development of character and ability rather than status and power. Status you can lose. You carry character with you wherever you go’. -

I found these words apt because doing something like free-climbing The Nose awards you great gains in ability and character but status also. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivators are at play. The interesting part is that before you embark on such a project you better work out which is your main motivator and why. Things to think about if I’m going to try this thing some more. -
