It’s great that people and politicians are waking up to the existential threat of #climatechange , but I still only rarely hear progressives and leaders talking about the role of animal agriculture. In addition to direct methane emissions(methane is a 25x stronger heat trapping gas than C02) from 100 Billion livestock animals, there’s also the 90% of rainforest deforestation attributable to animal agriculture, and the oil and gas required to: grow feed for livestock animals, transport water, heat and cool them, and transport them before and after slaughter. So please, by all means keep focusing on fighting climate change, but also accept that fighting climate change without addressing the role of animal agriculture is like fighting lung cancer without addressing the role of cigarette smoking… @dccc @ocasio2018 @repmaxinewaters @housedemocrats @mikelevin4congress @nancypelosi @gavinnewsom @nycmayor @kamalaharris
