? At present, the world is still built upon mechanisms shaped around a male perspective and power structures are predominantly dominated by men. Women have been fighting for generations for equal human, political and social rights and yet there are still plenty of difficulties and struggles on a daily basis. It is true, however, that the revolution started by the new media and the fast circulation of news and ideas made them even stronger and movements like Black Lives Matter or Tarana Burke’s #MeToo were capable of bringing them together in a common project. On their part, female artists and photographers voice such reality addressing topics but, most of all, providing a direct female perspective. And if photography is also a tool for change and a mirror of the world we live in, the picture showing gender inequality in photography reveals significant shortcomings.
