“Bree made me do it,” is something I often say jokingly about my new job. We have an article out in the latest Climbing Mag that’s partly about moving back home to coach full time, but also partly about our relationship...
While I was in love with Vegas, I got stagnant there. Complacent. Lazy. I was going nowhere personally or professionally, and I took the freedom of my lifestyle for granted.
When I first got an offer to move back to the Midwest to coach, I said no. I actually said no for 6 months, not wanting to give up being able to do whatever I wanted whenever I wanted, and being absolutely adamant that I’d never move back to where I grew up. I remembered the Midwest as closed-minded, judgmental, and not diverse.
But—Bree made me do it. She convinced me to accept the job, and moved across the country with me, away from her family to a place where she didn’t know a single person.
And it was the best thing that ever happened. I know it isn’t Thanksgiving yet, but I’m pretty thankful.
