In November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan wreaked havoc across much of the central Philippines. Thousands were killed and many were left homeless, without access to clean water and sanitation facilities. In Tanauan, a small farming community mainly reliant on coconut and rice, almost everyone lost their home and crops in the typhoon. I made two visits to the region, the first a few weeks after the typhoon struck and then a year later. In my first photograph we see the community clearing the land of fallen coconut trees before they rot. The second photograph shows the land after the replanting of coconut trees and root crops. It will take seven years for the coconut trees to grow fruit and be productive again.
