I love all of their perfect imperfections! Before Roo, we had pets with no “abnormalities”. We weren’t looking to adopt when we met Roo. We just went to give a donation. But we saw him & just felt like he was meant to join our family. He was our first perfectly imperfect pet. We went from buying a Shiba Inu (in 2009 before I was in rescue & was our only non-adopted pet).... because of their beautiful appearance to being an adoption advocate & adopting a cat with several “deformities”. He was skipped over for 6 months at the shelter for prettier cats. He was perfect to us! Then, in 2016, our ‘perfect’ Shiba Inu was diagnosed with Glaucoma ultimately taking her both her eyes. We don’t love Halo any less in fact, I actually found myself being more drawn to helping “imperfect” pets knowing I had the time patience to assist them. Back in 2009 I never imagined myself being a special needs pet mom with an interesting petfam from Ginger being a female orange tabby (which we didn’t know was a little rare til one of Venus’s fans told us), Venus being very unique, Roo having a leg deformity, and ultimately my only “common” & “not unusual” pet losing both her eyes but here we are. I feel lucky and enriched to have such special furkids. The only pet we ever planned was Halo. Every pet since then has found us when we weren’t necessarily looking to adopt. In October someone reached out to us about another imperfect baby hoping to find him a home with someone familiar with his deformity. This was just a couple months after our fosters were adopted and we felt bad that Roo lost his playmates (the girls love him but don’t play with him). He loves being a surrogate papa especially when we’ve had fosters with CH or like @trey_plus_trenton where Trey was a tripod like Roo from having his leg literally ripped off from being accidentally run over by a golf cart on a busy golf course (Roo doesn’t use his R/F leg to put weight on). He always took special care of the special needs kittens and they always gravitated towards him. What does this mean? ?? Stay tuned. I’ve been keeping a secret since October 1st & am waiting for the perfect way to “let the cat out of the bag”. ?
