If it’s an event that’s happened before I always google pictures from the year before. I have literally googled “Lesbian Black Tie” and “Lesbian Wedding Outfit” and “Lesbian business casual outfit” and pretty much every other event you can think of. I’m embarrassed about it to be honest. I search through queer women’s instagrams and Getty images trying to figure out which one I am and which outfits I can try to recreate for myself. It’s complicated and confusing and stressful. I want to feel comfortable in my outfit, I want to look sexy, I want to look appropriate for the event, I don’t want to look like I just walked out of a corporate business meeting, I want to look my age!!!, I want to look cool. Nailing all of those things is so hard!! And in 26 years I still haven’t mastered it. I’m not even close! But I know that if I’m struggling some of you probably are too. And I know getting all dressed up can be hard for all women and everyone but when you eliminate a dress as an option for yourself because it doesn’t feel right for you it really cAUsE$$s $tresssssSss!!!! Um I’m not even sure what the point of this is because I wish it ended with a “How to figure all this bullshit out” but it doesn’t because I haven’t figured it out. But I want to be transparent with all of you and I also promise to do my best to pass along advice and brands that I find that make the outfits I neeeeed. You’re not alone if you feel any of the things I just said and also be nicer to yourself because you probably look sexy as hell and you should just take a breath. You will always look hottest when you feel like yourself so don’t try to be something you’re not.
