Here with insight about Exodus, a moment I cannot let go from...I was at the Syria/Turkey border when the largest mass migration since the fall of the Ottoman Empire occurred - over 125,000 people crossing into Turkey, seeking refuge from ISIS who were taking over Kobani. In the distance was a dust devil or sand tornado. I had seen these amazing acts of nature in many parts of the world, often imaging...what would it be like being within the whirling? As hundreds of displaced refugees flowed across the border, this marvel kept coming closer. I kept watch and thought, “It’s coming near. Oh my, closer...closer...it’s coming directly towards us...”. There wasn’t anywhere to go on this open field of land. I held the camera to my eye, keeping it barely open as a roar hurled debris upon all of us. Within a second the devil had passed. Complete silence.
