Welp lessee—: the @ミシェル・オバマ #Becoming playlist started some 12 years ago when I had an idea in 2006: what if I could be the “first iPod!?” for @Barack Obama? (kids ask your parents ?) when our paths crossed in Virginia & we saw him speak in person I knew my mission was going to be the perfectly curated iPod. Every playlist for every type of occasion: workout energetic playlist, afternoon music while meeting w heads of state, music for dinner, music for after dinner, (*ahem* music for after after dinner ?) it became an obsession. At one point I hired 3 people. One of them transferred my music to mp3 files, another catalogued the existing ones with the right information (I was the “track 1” king), & another scoured the earth looking for the perfect beat. Back in 2006 my collection was average for an industry pro: 60,000 pieces? My obsession w acquiring every piece of music under the sun since 2006 now has me at like 110,000 pieces. Sunday I’d wake up 8am and cull the best of the lot 5 hours straight. Keep notes throughout the week. Test em in the car, test at home—it was so overwhelming I never finished the mission. Everytime Id see him he’d riff on me “so how is this mythical iPod you been speaking of?” (my head held in shame) I couldn’t bring myself to rob him of an alt take of a Coltrane classic from Japan that I wouldn’t get my hands on until 4 months from now could I? I gave Jay & B 2 tester iPods w about 5000 songs on it when Blue was born to always have on loop. but for some reason I never finished my projected 20,000 song extravaganza. Mostly because streaming networks became the norm and mp3s were fading out. So When our @QLS guest forever lady #MichelleObama requested I “make a playlist” they were thinking like 40-50 songs. I fell in the hole again (“hey Ahmir where is it?”....”you said that 4 months ago Ahmir!”) I couldn’t stop adding music (those watching closely will notice im STILL adding songs obsessively to all 3 of her lists) welp once I finally turned in my project as a quick aside I jokingly suggested we should talk on #questlovesupreme. I never thought she’d say “sure” so this is my spur of the moment one on one BRIEF convo w M.O.???
