I first read Kate Chopin’s novel “The Awakening” in my 9th grade English class at the age of 15. It affected me deeply—so much that I had a framed copy of the book cover in my bedroom through high school. Now, years later, while at work filming in the very same (but greatly changed) Grand Isle, Louisiana where the novel is set, I return to the pages of this book and rediscover this extraordinary story, so prescient and still profound. A reminder that awakenings come in waves, that tides turn, that the seas both outside and inside of us are constantly in motion. Life is full of such strange synchronicities, arrivals and revisitations. #theawakening #katechopin
