I promised to keep you guys updated on Rocco thru IG stories but we’ve been busy with round the clock care for him. He was doing pretty badly for a few days and I’m happy to report he is doing a lot better and slowly improving. I used an older picture of him in this post cause I desperately miss seeing him smile.
He was recently diagnosed with iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism from prolonged use of prednisone and it caused a second condition called calcinosis cutis which means calcium was depositing in his skin and basically turning it into bone.
So here we are now very well aware of the dangers of prednisone and the side effects no one tells you about. I was never warned of the side effects of prolonged prednisone use or told to keep an eye on him and to look for certain things. I’m grateful I took him in to a new vet and caught this early. However, the vet wasn’t kidding when she said his skin will get worse before it gets better. The second picture is not for the faint of heart so swipe at your own risk. This was the worse the vet was talking about but you can see in the 3rd picture that within a few days with the right treatment and vets looking after him his skin is looking better. Now we focus on keeping him comfortable and making sure we help his liver and skin heal.
