My mate Tommy Herschell is a mental health educator and just pulled out a video to explain the work he is a part of through @tomorrowman_au. Seeing boys/young men in their teens open themselves to their emotions, connecting with themes of courage and bravery in a way that acknowledges sensitivity, empathy and vulnerability as strength rather than weakness, is just amazing to see happening through a program like this. Watching this clip, we (@lisahmitchell, @sahajonze, @rowandrowand, Anna Rose & @clare_herschell) were all moved to tears.
What makes a man, a man? And who gets to decide these rules? Witnessing these boys dismantling their armor, and discovering openness and compassion to understand each other was incredibly moving and inspiring. In Australia every day 7 men kill themselves and it has tripled in the last 30 years. So much of what we are facing in this time, hinges on breaking dated stereotypes and the role young men can play as leaders.
My wish is that one day this work would be obligatory in all the schools' curriculum. To check out their work go to @tomorrowman_au.
