Created as a first-of-its-kind cultural collaboration between the United Arab Emirates and France, the Louvre Abu Dhabi is a universal art museum that opened its doors in November of 2017, showcasing both ancient and contemporary works from across the globe. Beyond being home to an incredible collection of art, the museum itself is also an artistic and architectural feat. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, it's unique appearance was inspired by the natural features of the surrounding environment — specifically, the juxtaposition between sand and sea and between shade and light. Travel tip: Keep an eye out for a never-before-seen paper collage of a woman's face by Picasso. The museum's project manager says that "it tells a beautiful story of the life of Picasso and the life of this lady" — and we always love a good story.
