As this year draws to a close, we’re looking back at our #Bestof2018 moments, starting with Amedeo Modigliani’s ‘Nu couché (sur le côté gauche)’ from 1917. This modern masterpiece stole the show during our May Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale in #NYC, when it sold for $157.2 million – the highest auction price in Sotheby’s history and nearly 6 times the painting’s last purchase price in 2003. Painted over a century ago, the canvas is the greatest work from the iconic series in which Modigliani reinvented the nude for the Modern era. Modigliani belongs to a rarified league of only 3 artists to break the $150 million barrier at auction, along with Pablo Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci.
