Many artists in the late 1960s worked in an abstract expressionist style, exploring both gestural abstraction and color-field painting. Despite painting’s supposed decline in New York at the time, unprecedented experimentation in the medium such as Ed Clark’s use of the push broom and Frank Bowling’s paint pouring technique demonstrate the freeform and highly innovative breakthroughs in abstraction in this period. #soulofanationbkm⠀
