My #TBT features a 3-year old me and my maternal grandfather Rodolf Tondré. I grew up in his house in Gundelfingen, a small town in the Black Forest region of Germany. ?? He had lost both his hands fighting in WW2 and co-founded the @VdK_Deutschland over 70 years ago to fight for the rights of disabled war #veterans in Germany. VdK is now the biggest social service association in Germany representing ca. 2m people with health care, retirement, and disability related challenges. ???? And even though he was first less than supportive of my mother's love for my father, he eventually realized his ignorance and embraced his black grandson. He taught me how to cut grass, paint walls, drive a car (at 6 years old ?), and here I was in the middle of giving us both a good wet shave. I loved my Opa dearly and I can still hear the sound of his raspy voice coming out of his office when he was talking on the phone.
