Judge Pauline Maxwell will be presiding. This is not enough notice and expert witnesses/professionals are unable to attend over the holiday. Go early and protest for Benson’s life, but also to pressure CSB to change their inhumane laws! Unlike most cities, CSB does not have a 3 strikes policy and if someone merely reports a dog/pet as a menace or threat (no bite incident necessary) that dog/pet can be condemned to death. 💔BENSON’s STORY 💔 Sign Petition ✍🏼 The city of Goleta @cityofgoleta and @countyofsb made the decision to put Benson down (💉PTS💉). In late October, Benson was off leash in an open field and went up to say "hello" to two dogs on leash and an altercation broke out. Unfortunately, the woman walking her two dogs tried to break it up and received a bite wound on her hand. The woman reported the incident and fought to get Benson put down. Six weeks later, Benson was condemned to death at a hearing led by council member Adomaitis Vyto. Benson’s veterinarian, dog trainer, and others came to the hearing to attest to Benson’s sweet, social nature, but council members had made their decision. A lot of professionals who work with dogs feel it is impossible to know which dog bit the woman, because dogs redirect their aggression and the woman reacted in a panic. She could have been bitten by one of her own dogs! Fear and tension on the leash equals aggression in dogs! Benson does not have any prior reported incidents, he sleeps we cats and plays off leash with dozens of other dogs at Hendry’s dog beach.
