Over the course of a few hours, the rapper, producer and entrepreneur underwent various physical and psychological tests while encased in a plexiglass box as invited onlookers watched and viewers tuned into the YouTube livestream. The performance addressed questions of fame, ego, artistic agency versus the demands of fans, sex, love and loss, all leading up to an announcement about his next album. Lab Rat was a continuation of dialogue with A$AP Rocky, which began with a video in our #FearlessNow series that brought the musician together with artist-activist Ai Weiwei to answer the question: what does it mean to be fearless? #asaprocky #testingthewaters
