This past summer, we co-hosted a screening of @crazyrichasians with a group of wonderful cohosts.
This film was such an exciting and impactful one, so close to our heart for it challenged existing societal norms and minority visibility, showcasing Asian people and culture in a desirable, witty, glamorous and charming manner. The film gives a seat at the table to those who have previously been underrepresented, creating a diverse, inclusive and stronger world, where all of us are willing to have a conversation & learn from and about each other. “Crazy Rich Asians” shifts the needle in the right direction, and I immediately knew I wanted to get behind the film, using our platform to advocate, promote and drive change.
This book, first written by @kevinkwanbooks and adapted into film by @jonmchu created a beautiful, supportive community— from the beginning of filming, the wonderful @constancewu worked so closely with the costume department to ensure our dress be included in the film (in my favourite scene no less!), @gemma_chan so gracefully used her red carpet platform to highlight the work of Asian designers, and @henrygolding, @awkwafina and @gemma_chan created a moment of vibrancy and solidarity, attending our Spring 2019 show in September. This is the kind of world I want to live in- one in which creative spirits of diverse backgrounds support each other, build one another up. I can’t wait to see what else the talented team in and behind @crazyrichasians brings in 2019.
