Power doesn’t come naturally to me. I grew up climbing very statically. I could crimp anything and lock anything off, but if you forced me to pounce or move with momentum or get a little burly (I don’t even have to say dyno because that didn’t exist in my muscular comprehension at the time) then I was done for. One day I realized I didn’t want to get shut down by my weaknesses anymore so... I decided to make my weaknesses my strengths. This included all of the above as well as fat pinches, slopers, wide shouldery moves and anything where I had to move quickly. It was a brutal overturn for my mind, ego, and muscles at the time. But I’m lucky to have had a couple coaches by my side to help, @djwahl39 was one of them. Honestly, burly things are my favorite now. Gimme those big fat pinches and slopers, and dynamic movements, the things that throw me down time after time until I learn the delicate subtleties of that power move. Because yes, power can sometimes be very delicate. And those things are, in my opinion, the most fun. It’s a fun process gaining back some power now. It’s not daunting and instead it’s refreshing. I pushed the restart button, albeit not necessarily by choice, but all things happen for a reason. And every day I’m learning more and more why I was forced to do so. Here I’m working on getting that power back in my surgical arm (my right). It’s getting there :)
